About TroveReader

TroveReader is based a simple yet powerful idea: the most effective way to learn a language is to engage with content you genuinely find interesting. Instead of being stuck with those dry graded readers written solely for learners that are far removed from real-world communication, we wanted a tool that bridges the gap to more challenging but authentic material: articles, podcasts, videos.

Our Philosophy: Frictionless, Comprehensible Input

Our core philosophy is based on the principle of comprehensible input, popularized by linguist Stephen Krashen. The theory suggests that we acquire language best when we understand messages in that language. TroveReader is designed to be a frictionless facilitator of this process. It's not the lesson itself; it's the tool that makes the lesson possible.

By allowing you to import any article, subtitle file, or text, with or without accompanying audio or video, we empower you to turn your curiosity into a curriculum. Whether it's a news story you would read in your native language usually, the transcript of your favorite podcast, or the subtitles from a movie you've been wanting to watch, TroveReader transforms it into an interactive learning experience.

How It Works

The process is simple. As you read, you click on words or select phrases you don't know. If you want, you can see translations for these and you can add them to your personal "Trove," creating a dynamic vocabulary list that is built from your own discovery. When you encounter these words in future texts, they're highlighted, reinforcing your learning in new contexts. This method helps you build a deep, contextual understanding of vocabulary rather than just memorizing isolated words.

We are committed to building a tool that respects your intelligence and empowers your learning journey. Thank you for being a part of it. If you want to support this project or get in touch, see our feedback email below.
